Students Well-Being
As Schools remain closed across the country in this unprecedented public health crisis, students need support now, more than ever. Not all consequences of the pandemic are as visible. Strict isolation measures and the closure of schools have significant impact upon health and well – being.
When parents are asked what they want for their children, a few might mention “achievement” or “success”, but most would say “happiness”, “confidence”, “kindness”, “health”and “satisfaction”,
In short, people value well-being. Well-being refers to psychological, cognitive, social, physical functionalities and capabilities students need to live a happy and fulfilling life.
So how do we take care of our children’s well – being in these turbulent times? Through Communication ? Consistency ? Control ? Self – care?
Here is a 4-point plan to help parents nurture the well – being of their children .
- Communication: Communication is the key. Communication helps in coping with disturbances and to gain an insight into children’s concerns. Have frequent conversations with the child and help them feel safe and secure.
- Routines: In these difficult and changing times, it is important for children to have consistent routines. Include them, as you set routines and boundaries.
- Social Interactions: Consistent social interaction can help children cope with the changing situations and provide a sense of stability in difficult times. Have them use video call chats to talk with family members and friends.
- As students create their Self – care plans, they will realize that they are in control of how they respond to any situation in their life – increasing confidence.
At Akshar Arbol International School, we came up with a comprehensive well-being plan, not just for our students but for the family as a whole. We designed a 3 week-3 day plan that focuses on digital detox while providing activities that students can do independently or with their families. The long weekends allow the families to relax, rewind and rejuvenate, preparing the mind and body for the next 3 weeks of active learning.
You can find the activities in the respective grade categories. Pick from our bouquet and indulge with your family to stay happy. As they say, ‘happiness is a direction, not a place.’
We would love to hear back from you, with your reflections and experiences, on our social media pages .
