Theme: Connection
Artists’ Note:
During this pandemic, we face many challenges in communicating, since we are unable to meet each other. But this has not stopped us from communicating our thoughts and ideas with each other. We have used our knowledge of technology to do many new things online, especially learning. We have managed to stay connected even in these uncertain times. It is to illuminate this that the theme of this year’s art installation is “Connections”.
When we first heard the theme, we had several ideas, such as making a collage, or using pins and thread to connect together places on the world map. We were both confused and intrigued on how to represent the theme. We had many ideas at first, but we narrowed it down to our final one.
We decided to do string art, as we felt that it brings out the meaning behind our theme in an unique and interesting way. We each wrapped strings around the nails in our individual boards, and then put together all of the boards. The st—rings show all of us coming together and connecting with each other. We also made a video similar to the “Pass the Brush” challenge, by passing our bundles of string to each other virtually after wrapping it around our board nails, to signify that this is an art created through connection of our ideas, efforts and with the intent of creating yet another masterpiece.
We decided on a simple pattern with triangles of four different colours, as we felt it would bring to light the idea of connectivity; poles apart and yet connected.
All our creativity and hard work came together with the guidance from our art teachers and finally it was all there upon the wall! We put our boards together, like a puzzle piece, to show that we connect together, showcasing the larger idea of ‘Connectivity’.
