Mr. R. Subramanian, Founder

Life of Sri R. Subramanian

Hailing from a family of erudite scholars, Sri. R. Subramanian was born on October 3, 1943 at Mannargudi, in Tamilnadu.

RS, as he was fondly called by all,  was a first-generation Chartered Accountant (CA). Having migrated to Chennai in the year 1965 to pursue his graduate studies, he completed his B.Com as a University Rank Holder, from RKM Vivekananda College. He then pursued his Chartered Accountancy, securing the First Rank in the Southern Region and the All India Fifth Rank, with a Special Prize for the Best Paper on Taxation in the Final Examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. He was also a recipient of the R. Rajagopal’s Gold Medal in the Management Accountancy Course from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, in 1969. Subsequently, he qualified as a Cost Accountant and Company Secretary from the Indian Institutes and was also admitted Associate of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, United Kingdom.

After a successful professional stint at New Delhi, he established R. Subramanian and Company in May 1974, serving several public and private sector clients over the years. He expanded his practice to different parts of India, through offices that he set up at New Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

RS served as the President of Hindustan Chamber of Commerce and was nominated to the FICCI National Executive. Over the years, he has served on several Government and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India’s Fiscal, Taxation and Policy Committees.

In the year 1990, he was awarded the title Shiromani by the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Thiru M. Karunanidhi for his contributions to the field of Finance & Accounting.

In 2011, he established Akshar Arbol International School.  His passion for education stemmed from his family lineage, where education was always cherished and nourished. He truly believed that education must be holistic, focusing on the 21st-century needs of inculcating essential skills and attitudes. The need to impart this from a young age prompted Sri R. Subramanian to take the initial step of establishing a K-12 school. In line with this philosophy, the International Baccalaureate and the Cambridge International Examination programmes were adopted as the Curricula at Akshar Arbol International School. His practice of integrating and inter-weaving contemporary practices with the traditional Indian value system has been the hallmark of the School’s Philosophy. This has become a way of life at AAIS, with a nourishing and nurturing environment where Arbolites have the freedom to think and act; ultimately finding themselves.

RS was born to serve the greater good. Drawing joy and energy through service to people, he led his life as a distinguished individual, making a mark in every domain he was associated with.
