A day filled with talks on vision, leadership, and art was a fitting and heartfelt tribute to our founder, Sri. R Subramanian.
The day came alive with vibrant celebrations on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, marking the 80th birth anniversary of the visionary founder, at the School’s newly built auditorium – Akshar Vani, at our ECR campus. The celebration was structured with different segments, each very thoughtfully planned and creatively crafted.
The morning opened with Satsang – a soulful rendition of bhajans by the student choir that brought an air of serenity, setting the tone for a day of reverence. Distinguished guests, including the Chief Guest for the event, Honourable Justice Sri V. Ramasubramanian (Retd Judge, Supreme Court of India), esteemed members of the Governing board, parents, staff, and students, graced the occasion.
A touching tribute video was presented, weaving together anecdotes and insights from those who had the privilege of knowing and working with Sri. R. Subramanian, affectionately known as RS Sir. This compilation highlighted the multifaceted contributions to his profession, art & culture, and service projects of the multi-faceted and beloved founder.
The next segment, ‘Dhi – True Knowings’, delved into “The Founder’s Telescopic Vision,” shedding light on the visionary perspective that ignited the institution’s journey 13 years ago. Mr. Gokul Dixit, a pivotal member of the School Governing Board, shared his insights into the realisation of this vision, alongside Founder Sri. R. Subramanian.
Honourable Justice Sri. V Ramasubramanian, delivered the keynote address on the topic ‘Ethical Leadership to Bring a Positive Change’, an apt topic for the event, as the School strives to nurture leaders in staff and students who align with the core values of integrity, empathy, respect and resilience.
The segment ‘Prarambh – Beginnings’ marked the initiation of the Institution of a Student Award and the announcement of the prestigious Chanakya Award. The Institution of Student Award, sponsored by Gnanacheri Trust, aims to nurture critical thinking and thoughtful expression amongst high school students through a research presentation and essay writing competition on select topics.
In memory of the founder, Akshar Arbol has instituted the Chanakya Award, presented annually, to recognize mid-level leaders amongst the AAIS staff community, who have shown exemplary leadership qualities. This award carries a cash reward to be used towards professional learning.
The final segment, ‘Dhatu – Elements,’ showcased the commendable initiative – Parivartan, conceptualised by artist Smt. Shreya Nagaraj Singh and Smt. Priya Murle, to support research in art. The School, with its firm belief in developing research skills amongst its students and staff, provided a platform for a young artiste and researcher, Mr. Vijay Kumar to present his findings. The final part of the Dhatu segment was a mesmerising Bharatanatyam performance titled “Katha” This lec-dem style presentation, was based on Peter Senge’s principles of a Learning Organization, transcended boundaries in expressing thoughts, ideas, and feelings, through the medium of Bharatanatyam; leaving the audience captivated and enthralled.
As the curtains fell on this splendid celebration, a heartfelt vote of thanks was delivered, expressing gratitude to all participants and attendees who contributed to making the event a grand success. In line with the School’s philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, the day concluded with a delightful lunch, fostering a sense of unity and camaraderie among all present.
The Founder’s Day was a day of reflection, inspiration, and celebration, honouring the indomitable spirit of Sri. R. Subramanian, while looking forward to a bright future.
