On the 1st and 2nd of August, 18students from Akshar Arbol International School participated in a Model United Nations (MUN) organized by Sir Mutha School, Chetput. As part of then MUN proceedings, students were assigned countries and committees they were supposed to represent and on the two days participated in debates and discussions that mimicked what an actual united nations conference would be like.
Apart from serving as a platform for students to learn how United Nation conference’s function, MUNsserve as a way for students to learn about socio-political affairs, humanitarian issues and environmental concerns that affect countries on an international scale. It is meant to challenge them to think from perspectives that are not nationalistic in nature.
It is also a forum for them to engage with debates and discussions with students from other schools, thereby helping them develop research and presentation skills.
Ashwath, Keshav and Nithyashree won special mentions for their participation in the UNODC committee. Several students from Grade 9 were also appreciated for their performances in various other committees.
