To mark 75 years of Indian Independence, the whole nation came together, to celebrate “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav”. And this year, the celebration was not limited to just watching the Prime Minister hoisting the flag on television. Every individual commemorated the special day by proudly hoisting the flag in their very own homes. Our PYP learners also got to display their patriotism in their own small ways.
Our enthusiastic students began preparations in full swing, days before the actual day. They were given the voice and choice to choose how they wanted to contribute to the celebrations. Our little nightingales participated in the Hindi and Tamil songs, while our budding actors took part in the Tamil and English skits. Our talented artists whipped up some colourful artwork that adorned the School walls. Some Risk Takers also chose to find out more about different freedom fighters and speak about them. “Ma’am I will research about Lokmanya Tilak and talk about him”, one student excitedly said.
We also witnessed many innovative ideas from our little Inquirers and Thinkers. “Ma’am, what if Gandhiji and Rani Jhansi had a conversation?” The performances were taken up a notch by all the colourful and creative costumes. Our Grade 1 and 2 learners dressed up in the traditional attires of different states and swayed to the tune of “My Name is Madhavi”.
Students got to know that the freedom that we currently enjoy wasn’t always a privilege. They went back home with a new perspective of the word independence, as well as some new knowledge about our unsung heroes.
